Mr.
Struth is founder and President of Energy Insights, a
consulting firm engaged in marketanalysis, along with the
study of strategic and economic issues for major
energycompanies. He was formally Manager of Petroleum Market
Analysis at Honeywell Hi-Spec Solutions, where he was
responsible for petroleum and refined product analysis and was
the chief contributor to the monthly Petroleum Market Analysis
publication. Mr. Struth has 20 years of energy industry
experience focusing on financial and industry market analysis,
economics, policy analysis, forecasting, and planning.
Prior
to joining Hi-Spec Solutions, Mr. Struth was employed as Chief
Economist by Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville,
Oklahoma. In this capacity, he was responsible for corporate
forecasting and economic analysis in the Corporate Planning
and Development Department. His duties included the following:
•
Developing forecasts of long-term and short-term crude
oil and natural gas prices,
drilling,
construction and operating cost escalation
•
Global economic and political analysis, including
monitoring and forecasting economic conditions, interest
rates, exchange rates, and inflation
•
Providing guidance in support of project development
and analysis. Such projects included upstream
developments in Norway, Venezuela, Kazakhstan, and the
Zone
of Cooperation in the Timor Sea. Downstream projects included
the Sweeny coker
joint venture with PDVSA.
•
Assessing strategic impacts and conducting policy
analysis of key issues such as
electric
restructuring, taxation, trade, and environmental legislation
•
Providing risk management assistance in the use of
futures, OTC derivatives, and
options
to hedge upstream and downstream exposures
•
Assisting in preparation of strategic plans and capital
budgets.
In previous
positions, Mr. Struth was employed as a consultant at Chem
Systems, Tarrytown, New York; and as an economist at Marathon
Oil Company, Findlay, Ohio. At Chem Systems, he developed,
directed, and marketed a short-term price forecasting service;
prepared outlooks of global oil markets and world economies;
and developed long- and short-run models of regional U.S.
energy markets. His duties at Marathon included directing
short-term analysis of oil prices; consulting with
Supply/Transportation Department concerning the use of futures
and options strategies,and preparing a monthly report on world
crude oil market conditions.
Mr. Struth is a member of the
International Association of Energy Economists and National
Association for Business Economics. He is a board member of
the National Energy Literacy Project.
Mr.
Struth holds a bachelor of arts degree in Economics from Rice
University and a master of science degree in Energy Management
and Policy Analysis from the University
of Pennsylvania.
