Texas Railroad Commission

TRC

The Texas Railroad Commission is an excellent source of curriculum material for science teachers.  Free workshops are available for teachers, but only in Texas.  The curriculum material consists of background reading, lesson plans, activities, tests, and answer keys for a wide range of subjects, currently focusing on energy and alternative energy.  The lesson plans are ready to go.  They summarize what the student should be learning, the main theories supporting what they’re learning, materials needed for the lesson, assignments and tests to reiterate the facts presented in the lesson plan.  These lesson plans are found under the education and training section of the Railroad Commission’s home page (see energy curriculum).  While there is a focus on energy and some focus on the environment, the economic angle is presented very occasionally.

The online Kid's World on the Texas Railroad Commission’s website is specifically geared toward education through interaction for younger children, and may be appropriate for those with classroom computer access at the primary level.
