DESP

The DESP provides workshops about oil and gas energy for science teachers. The grade levels are 4-6 and 7-12. The learning experience for children to be gained is from a more varied repertoire than that of the NGS. The computer is not the main focus of these programs. The DESP uses videos, experiments, and games to aid the learning process.

After participating in the workshop, the teachers are provided with a resource kit from which to teach what they have learned about oil and gas energy. These particular vehicles are very intuitive in their use and can be added to or modified to fit the curriculum of any particular school or school district. This program rated a 4.

With the permission of the DESP, much of their material could be incorporated into one or more of the NGS Kids Network Science units on energy. This could be a very good marriage of two very good products to make one great lesson; a lesson that incorporates the interwoven nature of the three "E's" (Energy, Economics, and Environment) would be an ideal that appears attainable.

The DESP is the basis for the Oklahoma Energy Resource Board's (OERB) education programs, which in turn is the basis for the Independent Petroleum Association of the Mountain States (IPAMS) "Petro Pros" program.
